Red Sox Seeing Early Warning Signs From Jarren Duran

When Jarren Duran is at his best, there are few left fielders better in Major League Baseball.

Duran is a dynamic player and can do a bit of everything on offense. The Boston Red Sox are fortunate to have him and clearly bet on his upside this past offseason, as shown by not trading him, despite the loud trade rumors.

Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as planned to kick off the 2026 season. Duran has played in 17 games so far this season and is slashing .164/.243/.254 with one homer, 10 RBIs, six walks, three stolen bases, three doubles and 12 runs scored.

The Red Sox have a clear logjam in the outfield. So far this season, Boston has addressed the surplus of outfield talent by cycling guys in and out and attempting to ride the hot hand at times. For example, it’s hard not to have Masataka Yoshida in the lineup at this point. He has played in 14 games so far this season and is slashing .324/.477/.412 with five RBIs, nine walks, three doubles and five runs scored. That’s the type of production you need in the lineup every night. But how do you do that when you have five talented outfielders?

For Duran, that could mean less playing time, unless he turns things around quickly. It’s certainly been a difficult start to the campaign for the 29-year-old. Hopefully, that changes quickly.
