We’ve gathered our friends and families around sustainable furniture for years. These are our favorite wooden dining tables that are sustainable, eco-friendly, and made to last.
Some of the strongest memories you’ll ever make in your home center around the dining table, from late nights with friends to late nights helping the kids with homework. Gathering with other folks to eat, drink, and talk — that’s what it’s all about, right?
And the benefits of family mealtimes gathered around the dining room table can’t be overstated. Cooking at home is, by and large, much healthier and cheaper than eating out. And “then the mental health benefits are just incredible,” Anne Fishel, a family therapist and the executive director of the Family Dinner Project, told the Harvard Edcast podcast in 2020. “Regular family dinners are associated with lower rates of depression, and anxiety, and substance abuse, and eating disorders, and tobacco use, and early teenage pregnancy, and higher rates of resilience and higher self-esteem.”
A good dining room table is like the beating heart of your home — so we’re here to help you shop for one that’s good for you and for the earth.
Why shop for sustainable wooden furniture?
We get it — chopping down trees to make furniture doesn’t sound like the most sustainable thing in the world. But that’s actually a misconception. Wooden furniture takes less energy and resources to make than furniture made from synthetic or composite materials. While the most sustainable furniture options are refinishing what you already have or buying secondhand, the second-best option is looking for furniture made of reclaimed wood. And virgin wooden furniture that’s ethically made is your next best bet.
The furniture companies below all boast third-party certifications that demonstrate their sustainability. When shopping for anything wood or paper, keep an eye out for the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) logo, which ensures responsible management of the forests used for timber. Another wood certification to look for is SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative). And other, more general certifications to keep an eye out for when shopping for home goods include Climate Neutral, Made Safe, Greenguard, and B Corp certs.
Keep in mind, too, that certain wood tables market themselves as wood, but are really made of composite or synthetic materials — so when looking for wood tables, make sure you read all the details.
Another plus about wooden furniture? When made well, they’re more durable than synthetics — they’ll last you a lifetime and probably much longer, too, so you can pass them on for generations. Wood is fairly easy to repair and refinish when needed, and its timelessness can’t be beat. A simple, well-made wooden table will never go out of style.

1. Sundays
Made In | Asia & Europe
Materials | FSC / NHLA / PEFC / Rainforest Alliance certified wood
Price | $1,490+
Sundays specializes in furniture that looks so high-end — without the high-end price points. The brand was founded by four friends who wanted to make furniture that was timeless, durable, and accessible. They make all kinds of furniture, from couches to coffee tables to storage solutions, and they have a super decent lineup of dining tables — nine different models, to be precise. One of their most affordable models, the Frame Round Dining Table, is made of solid walnut and has a four-foot dimension. It has an invisible steel frame, too, which means it’s designed for longevity. They make a few other dining tables in larger sizes, too, all of which have chic yet timeless designs and are braced with steel for durability.
Customer Review | “So beautiful, and solid, and rich looking. We have it set up as seating for 4- but if entertaining we can easily seat 8 people. It’s just going to age wonderfully, and we look forward to adding character with nicks and marks over the next several years. As a solid wood table should be treated, we will use it everyday with love.” – Jodie J. (Read all reviews.)

The table is so solid that the staff in my building could not believe it wasn’t marble based on the weight.
