Phasmophobia is getting an Alan Wake 2 crossover event next month, which would be cool if it wasn’t one time only

To be a live service game, in any shape or form, is to seemingly make some kind of agreement to eventually make some kind of licensing deal. And it is happening again. This time with Phasmophobia and, to its credit, the quite thematically appropriate Alan Wake 2, which is coming to the co-op horror game as part of a limited-time event.

How limited-time you ask? Well, it kicks off on May 12th, next month, and runs until June 2nd, so very limited. Not only is it for such a short period of time, but according to the announcement post over on Steam this is a one time event, so if you miss it, you’re out of luck. Certainly one of the more annoying aspects of Phasmophobia as even events of the developer’s own making only come at certain points in the year, and sometimes held for just the one occasion. Details beyond what is shown off in the trailer are incredibly minimal, only sharing that you’ll “unravel a new chapter from Alan Wake, unlock in-game rewards and more.” Firmer details will come closer to the start date.

The trailer itself gives a smidge more away, showing off a bunch of locales that have been given an Alan Wake 2 themed makeover. Most obvious of the bunch is Mr. Wake’s writing desk, but for the most part it’s just a bunch of eerie, sort-of trippy, vaguely Alan Wake cinematography inspired shots that don’t make it all that clear as to what you’ll actually be doing. At least it sounds like they got Alan Wake’s voice Matthew Porretta to do the voice over for the trailer! That’s fun.

Apparently Remedy directly collaborated with Kinetic Games in making the crossover, making it entirely possible that there will be some semblance of canonicity to be found here. I personally hope not. As much as I like the Remedy Connected Universe, I’d like it to stay contained. In any case, make sure you hop on to Phasmophobia May 12th if you hate missing events or like stories about writers who kind of suck ass a little bit.
