Resident Evil Requiem story DLC officially announced

Resident Evil Requiem‘s a hit, so naturally, Capcom is working on downloadable content for it. On Tuesday, game director Koshi Nakanishi revealed that a story expansion for the latest Resident Evil is now in development, though its contents remain a mystery.

“We are planning to make extra story content,” Nakanishi said in a video posted to the official Resident Evil X account. “In this story, we will delve deeper into the world of Requiem. We’re hard at work on it now. It will take some time, so we ask for your patience and hope that you’ll look forward to it.”

Story-based expansions for modern Resident Evil games are expected at this point. Resident Evil 7 biohazard featured three downloadable add-ons: Banned Footage, Not A Hero, and End of Zoe. Resident Evil Village featured an extended story with Shadows of Rose, and the Resident Evil 4 remake expanded with Separate Ways.

Nakanishi said that Capcom is also planning to release further updates for the base version of Resident Evil Requiem, including a photo mode and “another surprise coming around May.”

“We’re planning to add a minigame,” Nakanishi said, though he did not reveal what that would entail. Two recent games in the franchise, Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4‘s remake, received the fan-favorite mode The Mercenaries shortly after each game’s launch, so a similar mode for Requiem seems possible.

However, prior to Nakanishi’s reveal of new story-based DLC for Resident Evil Requiem, he showed off a few slides that were either sly jokes or subtle hints about what kind of minigame players might see. Nakanishi showed one slide that featured the title “Forbidden Requiem,” which implied that Leon S. Kennedy would appear on the dating show The Bachelor — no doubt a nod to Leon’s mysterious relationship status. Other slides showed a card game that looked Inscryption inspired, a Resident Evil-themed Candy Crush-style puzzle game, and cat heads for Leon and Grace.

To be honest, none of these sound like bad ideas!

Resident Evil Requiem is available now on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
