Critics questioned the hygiene implications, passenger disruption, and potential security concerns of occupying an aircraft lavatory for such an extended period. Another widely circulated video from 2020 showed a passenger “grilling” a steak in an airplane toilet using a small heating device. Although the guy from the video later claimed it was staged, it nevertheless sparked debate about how easily such dangerous behavior could be imitated. Attempting to generate heat, or worse, an open flame, inside a pressurized aircraft is not just unhygienic but potentially hazardous. Aircraft lavatories are equipped with smoke detectors and fire suppression systems precisely because onboard fires pose one of aviation’s most serious risks.
Taken together, these incidents highlight a troubling trend of social media creators treating aircraft lavatories as private studios rather than shared, safety-critical spaces.
