When it comes to Airbus A380 operations in the United States of America, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Southern California is the nation’s top hub. According to current scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, just 10 US airports will handle the A380 this year, serving a combined grand total of 7,638 departures. Of these, LAX accounts for 2,022 flights, representing a proportion of 26.5%.
What is also impressive about LAX’s A380 operations isn’t just the number of flights served but also the number of airlines operating them, with six different carriers from all over the world flying their superjumbos to the city. Comparatively, only three airlines fly the A380 to New York JFK Airport. The A380’s popularity in LAX is a result of various different factors, such as geography and demographics. Let’s see who flies the type to LAX.
Qantas Dominates With Two Routes
A key reason behind the A380’s popularity in Los Angeles is the fact that the city’s location on the West Coast of the United States of America means that it can be reached with the type by operators from both the European and Asia-Pacific markets, both of which are highly lucrative. This is shown by the fact that, when all is said and done, Australian flag carrier Qantas operates the most A380 flights from LAX, with 467 departures in 2026.
These are spread across two different routes, with the bulk of the traffic serving Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD). This corridor is served daily, with 365 flights a year, with the remaining 102 departures serving Melbourne Airport (MEL). These flights also operate all year round, but typically only twice a week. The city has a lot to offer Australian travelers, particularly this year, as the LA Tourism & Convention Board’s Adam Burke said in 2025:
“From the prestige of awards season to year-round matches across our 11 professional sports teams and with FIFA World Cup 2026 on the horizon, there’s no shortage of action in LA.”
Two A380 Operators Serve LA’s Large Korean Population
Another important destination in the Asia-Pacific market when it comes to Airbus A380 operations out of LAX is Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) in South Korea. A key reason behind why such considerable demand for high-capacity transpacific flights between Los Angeles and the capital city of South Korea exists is the large Korean-American population in LA, with NBC reporting that this community consists of more than 250,000 people.
Such is the demand for these flights, in fact, that two different airlines from South Korea fly their Airbus A380s to and from Los Angeles International Airport on a regular basis. Asiana Airlines wins on frequency, with 379 departures throughout the year, compared to 157 for Korean Air, whose superjumbos are currently only set to serve LAX until October. The latter’s frequency peaks at 18 monthly departures in June and August of this year.
Asiana Airlines, meanwhile, is primarily set to fly from Los Angeles International Airport to Seoul Incheon on a daily basis this year, with this being the case from February through to December. January, however, saw a boosted frequency of 45 departures, with a second daily flight for the first 14 days of the month.

Three more airlines will operate scheduled commercial passenger flights with the Airbus A380 from Los Angeles International Airport this year. As seen above, Emirates is one such airline, with the UAE flag carrier flying the superjumbo to its main hub at 
Dubai International Airport (DXB) on a daily basis.
LAX will also handle two European A380 operators in 2026. Firstly, British Airways’ superjumbos will serve its main hub at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) almost every day this year, with 363 departures pencilled in. The only exceptions came on January 11 and 15. Elsewhere, German flag carrier Lufthansa’s A380s will link LA with Munich (MUC) 291 times in 2026, with reduced frequencies in January and March before daily service from April.
