Canada Needs New Tech | Excited Delirium

As boneheads and Felon McBonespurs whines again about Canadian autonomy, we collectively have to take action against American technology providers.

  • Google
  • Amazon
  • Microsoft
  • Hosting companies
  • Other American-owned tech companies

So, why?

Because any data they collect isn’t ours.

Because any obligation to Canadian buyers disappears at the snap of a finger from the world’s whiniest dictator.

Because we need our own security and autonomy.

Because it would save us billions per year.

This article clearly demonstrates that, like most agreements with American companies, we’re not in control of our information, despite paying for services and infrastructure.

Microsoft’s statement means that if they receive a valid legal request from the United States government for data on a Canadian residing on a Microsoft server or infrastructure in Canada, Microsoft will respond to the request without receiving permission from Canadian authorities.

Doesn’t that concern you, given that more than 70% of Canadian computers are based on the Microsoft operating system? And that most of our schools, businesses, hospitals and governments also depend on a reliable operating system that can’t be shut off on a whim?

We need to invest HEAVILY in a new technology infrastructure that’s built by Canadians and for Canadians. The North Tech Bros are not invited.

Open Source is the way to go.

If you’re not using Libre Office and/or Proton, I suggest you do. They may be a little slower to remove your data and/or report you for speaking out against the tyrant down south, but it might make a big difference when things get even more serious than they are already.
