Senior Liberals are not much known for ideological or logical consistency, of course, and they are known for walking on quails’ eggs with respect to Quebec’s unique preoccupations. But surely if any Quebec premier’s departure could arouse them to some kind of criticism, or at least a civil but perfunctory “thank you for your service” — or maybe just silence; that is an option, politicians! — you would think it would be Legault, who essentially embodied everything the Liberal brand theoretically opposes.
