Ex-husband arrested in connection with double murder of Ohio dentist, wife


A man has been arrested in connection with the double murder of his ex-wife and her Ohio dentist husband just before the new year, according to court records.

Michael McKee was arrested in the fatal shootings of Monique Tepe, 39, and Spencer Tepe, 37, after he was linked to a vehicle seen on surveillance footage in the Columbus, Ohio, neighborhood around the time of the killings, according to the complaint filed in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect through neighborhood surveillance footage, according to the complaint. Detectives then linked the suspect to a vehicle that arrived just before the murders and left shortly after, according to the complaint.

Detectives later found the vehicle in Rockford, Illinois, and found evidence of McKee being in possession of it before and after the killings, according to the complaint.

Officers found Monique and Spencer Tepe shot in their home on Dec. 30 after Spencer Tepe failed to show up at work, police said. They were both pronounced dead at 10:11 a.m.

Spencer Tepe had multiple gunshot wounds while Monique Tepe had at least one gunshot wound to the chest, according to local ABC News affiliate WSYX.

Two small children were found unharmed in the house, according to court records.

In a statement on Saturday, Columbus police said they are continuing to investigate the case. “So we do not compromise the active and ongoing case progress, information will be released as appropriate,” the department said in a statement.

In a statement the Tepe family said it trusts he justice system to hold the suspect accountable.

“Today’s arrest represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer. Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon, but we are grateful to the City of Columbus Police Department, its investigators, and assisting law enforcement community whose tireless efforts helped to capture the person involved,” the Tepe family said.

The statement added, “Monique and Spencer remain at the center of our hearts, and we carry forward their love as we surround and protect the two children they leave behind. We will continue to honor their lives and the light they brought into this world.”

McKee and Monique Tepe were married in 2015 and divorced in 2017, according to divorce records obtained by ABC Columbus affiliate WSYX. The former couple did not have any children together, according to the records.

McKee is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
