Rixo Wedding Guest Dresses: Reviewed by a Fashion Editor

Most days of the week, I’m wearing a dress, and when I’m wearing a dress, it’s either vintage or from the British brand Rixo.

I’m drawn to Rixo because it makes dresses with a vintage sensibility, but the brand doesn’t take itself too seriously. It isn’t that the brand is making dresses that feel like they’re accurately from another time. Instead, they have special details, patterns, and cuts that make them feel like something you’d luckily stumble across at a market rather than a big-box department store. Its dresses feature lace trimmings and classic silhouettes as well as a mishmash of patterns that shouldn’t look good together—like a bold floral and a fierce tiger print—but somehow do.

Because dresses are so often worn for occasions, they can feel automatically formal or fancy. Somehow, Rixo always manages to strike a balance between designs that feel apt for celebrations and those for fun, casual nights out with friends. To me, it’s what makes the brand so special.

Recently, Rixo has expanded its range for celebratory occasions and now offers a handful of dresses perfect for black-tie parties. It also offers the perfect wedding guest dresses for a variety of dress codes, from formal to casual. Best of all, the dresses don’t feel restrictive. Yes, they’ll work for an over-the-top destination wedding or cozy backyard nuptials, but you can easily rewear them many times over. A Rixo dress isn’t something you relegate to the back of your closet for when the right time comes. Instead, you’ll find yourself constantly looking for another reason to wear it without much trouble. I speak from experience.

Rixo’s dresses are so comfortable and easy to wear that I sometimes reach for mine when I’m just stepping outside to run errands. I am not a “T-shirt and jeans” girl, but my Rixo dresses feel like that version of a fallback outfit to me. When I’m not sure what to wear, I’ll throw one on and feel comfortable but also like myself. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that I know I’ll get compliments whenever I step out wearing Rixo. It happens without fail multiple times over every time.
