TV remains as prolific as ever. Over the past year, numerous shows have aired, providing something of interest for all sorts of viewers. This week, there are a couple of fun new shows coming out, from comedies to sci-fi, and also some older titles that have been made available on popular streamers.
FX’s Adults is back for a second season, continuing the story of a group of twenty-something roommates in Queens as they deal with pesky adult life. On the other side of the spectrum, there’s Dark Matter, a sci-fi show based on Blake Crouch’s novel, following a man thrust into an alternate reality by an evil version of himself. He spends the series trying to make his way back home to his wife and son.

Adults has become a favorite among Gen-Z viewers, with its first season introducing a group of friends living together in one of their childhood homes. Much of the comedy comes from the group’s first encounters with adult matters, like navigating the healthcare system in the US or trying to develop a stable career. Episodes air weekly on Thursdays.

Dark Matter

Dark Matter season 2 premiers this Friday. Based on Blake Crouch’s novel, the second season continues the story of physicist Jason Dessen, who was abducted and taken to an alternate reality by an evil version of himself who wanted to take over his life. Crouch is also the series showrunner, with this season continuing the story beyond the novel. New episodes are released every Friday.

Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) gave up his grand ambitions of being a world-renowned physicist to start a family, living a content if unremarkable life in Chicago with his wife Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and teenage son Charlie (Oakes Fegley). Another version of him continued to pursue cutting-edge science and invented a box that could be used for multiversal travel. Jason 2 became convinced that he would be happier with the path not taken, and used the technology to replace Jason. Jason 2 sent Jason back to his company, Velocity Labs, since he imagined Jason might enjoy being rich and successful.

Netflix’s latest binge is Mousetrap, a South Korean thriller following a reclusive novelist whose identity and assets are stolen by a mysterious figure known as The Rat. Death of a Pastor’s Wife

Death of a Pastor’s Wife explores the death of 30-year-old Mica Miller, who was found dead in North Carolina in 2024. While her death was ruled a suicide, the documentary explores the tangled investigation that took place in the following months, revealing that Miller believed she was being stalked and that her husband, Pastor John Paul Miller, was one of the police’s prime suspects.
