6 Airlines With The World’s Most Spacious Business Class Seats For Long-Haul Flights

Business class seat width varies more across airlines than most passengers realize. The difference between the narrowest and widest seats on this list is nearly 18 inches (46 cm), a gap large enough to reflect two fundamentally different approaches to what a business class cabin should prioritize.

Some airlines have invested that space into enclosed suites with closing doors. Others have used it to build the widest possible seat in an open cabin. Both approaches have trade-offs, and the right choice depends on whether a passenger values privacy or physical space more on a long-haul flight.

The six airlines on this list represent the most spacious business class products currently flying, measured by seat width, bed dimensions, and overall suite design. Raw width is the simplest metric, but not the only one that matters. A narrow seat inside a fully enclosed suite can feel more spacious than a wider seat in an open cabin, and several entries here earn their place on design rather than dimensions alone.

Delta Air Lines

Delta One Suite Credit: Delta Air Lines

Delta Air Lines was the first US carrier to introduce a door-equipped business class suite, debuting the product on its A350-900 fleet in 2017. The current Delta One Suite is arranged in a 1-2-1 staggered layout with direct aisle access and a sliding privacy door on the A350-900 and A330-900. Seat dimensions vary by aircraft.

On the A330-900, the suite measures 22.5 inches (57 cm) wide with a 79-80 inch (201-203 cm) bed. On the A350-900, the seat is 20.5 inches (52 cm) wide with a 76-77 inch (193-196 cm) bed. The 767-400ER features a 20-inch (51 cm) wide seat and a 77-81-inch (196-206 cm) bed but does not have a closing door.

Delta currently operates the most door-equipped business class suites of any US carrier and expects 90% of its Delta One seats to have sliding doors by 2030. A next-generation suite designed with Thompson Aero Seating will debut on the A350-1000 in 2027, featuring a bed over 6.5 feet (198 cm) long, 24-inch (61 cm) screens, and a pillow-top cushion over memory foam. The A330-200 and A330-300 fleets will also receive suite retrofits.

Delta’s inclusion on this list is based on the overall suite experience and network scale rather than raw seat width. At 20-22.5 inches (51-57 cm), depending on aircraft, the seat is narrower than several competitors here. What Delta offers is a consistently competitive door-equipped suite product across more aircraft and more routes than any other US carrier.

Emirates

21 inches (53 cm) wide Emirates Business Class

Emirates’ newest business class product is the A350 S-Lounge, which launched in late 2025 with a 1-2-1 layout, direct aisle access at every seat, and a width of 21 inches (53 cm) at a pitch of 44 inches (112 cm). The cabin is finished in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class design language, with cream leather, wood, and silver trim. It is a competitive, modern product that brings Emirates in line with what other major carriers now offer in seat width and layout. This cabin represents a significant step forward over the business class cabins on the rest of the fleet. The older products are where the dimensions tell a different story. The A380 business class seat measures 18.5 inches (47 cm) wide, only 1 inch wider than the A380’s economy at 17.5 inches (45 cm).

It is one of the narrowest business class seats in the industry, and its width is its most common criticism, despite the seat converting to a fully flat bed of up to 79 inches (201 cm) in the window and center positions. The 777 fleet carries an older angle-flat business class in a 2-3-2 layout at 20.5 inches (52 cm) on unrenovated aircraft, though Emirates is currently refurbishing its 777-300ERs with a new 1-2-1 Safran layout at approximately 22 inches (56 cm).

Emirates earns its place on this list primarily on the strength of the S-Lounge and the overall A380 cabin environment rather than on raw seat width across the fleet. The A380’s onboard bar, upper-deck exclusivity, and the physical scale of a double-deck aircraft create a sense of spaciousness that the 18.5-inch seat measurement does not capture. The S-Lounge closes the dimensional gap with competitors. The older products remain narrower than most of what the other airlines on this list offer.

Cathay Pacific

21-25 inches (53 – 63.5 cm) wide Cathay pacific Aria Suite

Cathay Pacific’s Aria Suite launched on the airline’s A350-1000 fleet and won World’s Best Business Class at the 2026 AirlineRatings awards. The suite is arranged in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout with a closing door at every position. The seat measures 21 inches (53 cm) wide at the armrest, widening to approximately 25 inches (64 cm) at the shoulders where the suite shell flares outward.

In lie-flat mode, the bed extends to 79 inches (201 cm), and the upright seating position offers 43 inches (109 cm) of pitch. The Aria Suite’s approach to spaciousness differs from that of a seat that is simply wider across the board. The narrower armrest width keeps the footprint compact enough for Cathay to maintain a commercially viable seat count.

Meanwhile, the wider shoulder area provides the sense of openness that matters most when a passenger is seated upright or sleeping on their side. The suite door adds an enclosure that makes the available space feel more personal than an equivalent open seat would.

The product is deployed on Cathay’s A350-1000 routes out of Hong Kong, serving long-haul destinations such as London, Los Angeles, and Sydney. In terms of raw seat width at the armrest, the Aria Suite is narrower than several entries on this list. In terms of bed length, shoulder width, privacy, and overall design, it earned the award recognizing it as the best business-class product of the year.

3

Qatar Airways

21.5 inches (55 cm) wideQatar Airways QSuite A350-1000

Qatar Airways’ QSuite earns its place on this list for what it does with the space rather than for how wide the seat itself is. At 21.5 inches (55 cm), the seat is narrower than both ANA and Singapore Airlines. What QSuite introduced when it launched in 2017 was a fully enclosed business-class suite with a closing door, a feature that prompted competitors across Asia, Europe, and the US to follow suit.

QSuite 2.0, introduced on select A380 and A321XLR routes in late 2025, further extended the product. The headline feature is a double bed measuring 6.5 feet (198 cm), the longest in business class as of early 2026. The double configuration allows two adjacent suites to open into a shared space with a combined sleeping surface.

The suite doors, personal storage, and dining surfaces were updated, and the entertainment screens were enlarged. Qatar Airways treats the suite as a complete environment rather than a seat with add-ons. The QSuite passenger is enclosed on all four sides, with a locking door, a defined workspace, a dining surface large enough for full meal service, and enough room to move without contacting the suite walls.

On a pure width measurement, it sits in the middle of this list. In the overall sense of having a private room rather than a seat on an aircraft, QSuite and QSuite 2.0 remain the benchmark the rest of the industry is measured against.

2

Singapore Airlines

28-30 inches (71 – 76 cm) wideSingapore A380 Business Class

Singapore Airlines has the widest seat measurement among airlines that use a traditional open business class design rather than an enclosed suite. Its long-haul business class seats measure approximately 28-30 inches (71-76 cm) wide, depending on the aircraft type, with the newest configurations on the A350 and 777-300ER at the top of that range.

The bed measures between 76 and 78 inches (193-198 cm) and includes premium bedding, including a full mattress pad, duvet, and pillow. The design philosophy is straightforward. Singapore Airlines prioritized seat width and sleeping surface quality over enclosure and privacy features.

There are no closing doors, no high partitions, and no suite-style walls surrounding the passenger. The seat is wide, the bed is flat, and the soft product does the work of making the experience feel premium. For passengers who find enclosed suites claustrophobic or prefer a more open cabin, Singapore’s approach offers the most physical space per seat of any non-suite business class cabin currently flying.

The trade-off is privacy. On a fully booked flight, passengers in center pairs sit adjacent to each other, with a divider that provides visual separation but not the acoustic or physical enclosure offered by a door-equipped suite. Singapore has chosen not to follow the industry trend toward full enclosure. At 28-30 inches (71-76 cm), Singapore’s business class is wider than every suite product on this list by a considerable margin.

1

All Nippon Airways (ANA)

38 inches (97 cm) wide ANA The Room Seating

ANA’s ‘The Room’ holds the clearest dimensional claim to the most spacious business class seat currently flying. The suite measures 37.5-38 inches (95-97 cm) at its widest point, with a waist-area width of 27 inches (69 cm). That is wider than many first class products. The Room is installed on ANA’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft operating premium long-haul routes out of Tokyo, including New York, London, Frankfurt, and Los Angeles.

The design abandons the conventional business class seat shape entirely. Rather than a narrow pod that reclines into a bed, The Room is a defined rectangular space with a door, a full-width sleeping surface, and enough floor area for a passenger to move within the suite without contacting the walls. The bed extends to approximately 72-76.5 inches (183-194 cm) depending on the source.

Meanwhile, the footwell is wide enough at over 12 inches (30 cm) to accommodate a comfortable sleeping position without the cramped diagonal angle common in other business class products. ANA sacrificed seat count to deliver a product that competes on sheer space. The 777-300ER carries 64 of these suites in a 1-2-1 configuration, and the lower density affects revenue per flight on routes where demand might support a tighter layout.

On routes where premium demand is strong enough to fill the cabin at the fares ANA charges, The Room delivers a business class experience that no competitor matches in raw dimensions. At nearly 38 inches (97 cm) at its widest, it is wider than the business class seat of every other airline on this list and wider than most first class seats in the industry.
