Police are investigating a suspected hate-motivated offence after three people standing in front of a North York synagogue were shot at with a replica firearm Thursday night.

The shooting happened at around 11:00 p.m. outside the Chasidei Bobov synagogue in North York, according to police. One person suffered minor injuries after being hit with a “projectile” from the replica firearm.

In an update Friday, police said this is the second incident to occur in the city in just over a week.

“Let’s be clear: using any type of firearm, real or replica, to terrify a community is criminal,” the update said.

Stephanie Sayer, a spokesperson with the Toronto police, said officers are currently investigating and speaking to witnesses in the area.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
