2 dead, 12 injured after boat capsizes in New York Harbor, officials say


Two people were killed and 12 others were rescued with minor injuries after a boat capsized off of Liberty Island in New York Harbor on Saturday night, officials said.

Divers with the New York Police Department and first responders with the Fire Department responded to a call at about 10:30 p.m., officials said.

Two people, a 27-year-old woman and a 5-month old girl, were transported to NYU Language Health Brooklyn were they were later pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

Twelve people were rescued and transported with minor injuries to local area hospitals, the FDNY said.
