The field for the 2026 Open Championship is not quite filled. There will be 156 golfers on the tee sheet when the tournament starts Thursday, July 16, at Royal Birkdale in England, and the 156th spot will be determined by the first-ever Last-Chance Qualifier.
The R&A has unveiled what is essentially an 18-hole, 12-for-1 playoff to be played Monday, July 13 at Royal Birkdale, with the winner of this event advancing to the final major of 2026.

The R&A did say this list is subject to change between now and Monday. One way the list could change is if Matti Schmid or Angel Hidalgo have strong week’s at the Genesis Scottish Open, the final event in the Open Qualifying Series. The top three finishers in the Scottish not already exempt for the British will thus earn a tee time at the major championship, and that would open the door for someone else to get into the 12-man, Last-Chance Qualifier field.
