Yesterday Match Result: Sameer Rizvi rescues DC after collapse, stuns LSG

NEW DELHI: Indian Premier League 2026 Day 5 delivered yet another gripping contest as Delhi Capitals pulled off a remarkable six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants, recovering from a dramatic top-order collapse in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest 142, Delhi were in deep trouble at 26/4 inside five overs after early strikes from Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav. Shami struck with the very first ball, dismissing KL Rahul for a duck, while Prince removed Pathum Nissanka and Axar Patel in quick succession.

However, impact substitute Sameer Rizvi turned the game on its head with a composed unbeaten 70 off 47 balls. Alongside Tristan Stubbs (39 not out), he stitched an unbroken 119-run stand that guided Delhi home with 17 balls to spare.

“I think the way Sameer plays naturally against spin made my job easier,” Stubbs said after the match, highlighting the calm approach during the rebuild.

Rizvi reached his fifty with a boundary and sealed the win in style with a six, capping a match-winning knock that included five fours and four sixes.

Ngidi, Natarajan lead Delhi’s bowling charge

Earlier, Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball, picking up three wickets to help bowl out Lucknow for 141 in 18.4 overs. T Natarajan also claimed three scalps, while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.

LSG skipper Rishabh Pant endured a tough outing, getting run out for seven, while Mitchell Marsh (35) and Abdul Samad (36) provided brief resistance. Wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing the hosts from building momentum.

“You know, one positive is that the boys fought hard,” Pant said, reflecting on the narrow defeat.

All eyes on KKR vs SRH clash

Attention now shifts to Day 6, where Kolkata Knight Riders take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens. Both sides will be desperate to open their accounts after losing their respective season openers, setting up a high-stakes clash as IPL 2026 gathers momentum.
