Queensland 332 for 7 (G Harris 111, Redmayne 105, Winfield-Hill 55, Cheatle 3-46) beat New South Wales 212 for 6 (Wilson 76, Healy 64) by seven runs (DLS method)

Playing her last competitive match, Healy hit 64 off 63 deliveries to give NSW hope, before the storms struck shortly after her dismissal with NSW 129 for 1.

Jonassen then delivered a clutch final over with 15 needed, helping run out Maitlan Brown from the penultimate ball to ensure Queensland would win their second WNCL title after a maiden success in 2020-21.

“I’ve been playing 17 or 18 years for this team, and yes we’ve won a title but I wasn’t here for it,” former national spinner Jonassen said. “So that’s the first one I’ve been here for. It’s very special, and definitely something I am going to savour.”

After NSW struck twice early to leave Queensland 21 for 2, it was Redmayne and Harris who took charge of the game.

Redmayne was particularly strong through the covers as she became the first player to hit four centuries in a WNCL season.

At the other end Harris was her usual powerful self after a patient start, bringing up her hundred from 86 balls as she repeatedly took NSW on down the ground.

In reply, Healy looked set to offer up one last heroic knock, flying to her half-century and hitting Nicola Hancock and Grace Parsons for big sixes down the ground.

“I love batting with her, it’s just so easy,” said Wilson, who will on Monday fly to West Indies to be Australia’s back-up wicketkeeper following Healy’s retirement. “I’ve looked up to her since I was little, so now to be able to play with her and finish off her last innings with her, it’s pretty special to think about.”

Even when the former Australia captain was caught cutting Charlie Knott, NSW looked likely to take victory, with damaging storms hitting Sydney and the Breakers six runs ahead on DLS.

“How we started with the bat showed we were probably capable of chasing it down,” Wilson said. “But after we came off from the break we knew we had to go out there firing.

“We started well, but when you have to chase 10 an over for nine overs after you’ve been on the sidelines for a few hours does make it tough.”
