Todd Snyder has long been favored by a certain kind of suave, big city–trained male who prioritizes sharp dressing but is also a fan of the rugged, modern mode de vie. Think: high-end hoodies and relaxed linen shirts on one hand and Italian wool suits on the other (made more appropriate for that post-meeting, early summer bar hang with a cotton-cashmere tee worn underneath). Aera, though, is a watchmaker in the business of merging Swiss engineering with British design: ultimately taking tool watches, which were once critical for the successful completion of pursuits from space exploration to motor racing, and reinterpreting them for 21st-century, everyday needs. Together, Aera and Todd Snyder have recently released a D-1 Diver Watch, and it has already sold out in one of its two hues, with just a couple of pieces remaining for the second.

Only 25 units in total of the Todd Snyder x Aera D-1 Diver Watch in white were unveiled, and the limited-time-only nature of the collaboration is fitting considering the exclusivity associated with its makers. The model is an update of Aera’s preexisting D-1 Diver offering, which hit the scene in 2022 and fully depleted in inventory shortly thereafter. According to Aera, the D-1 takes a page from midcentury diver watches, capturing “all the rugged performance of those worn by trained professionals” and boasting a design with “anytime, anywhere” versatility.

You’ll appreciate its natural minimalism: swapping the 18-karat golds of the world for a matte titanium case, a durable rubber strap, and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The bells and whistles performance-wise are many, though — like water resistance of up to 300 meters, guaranteed visibility in low-light conditions thanks to glowing numbers and hands, and Swiss movement. Special care has been put into the Todd Snyder x Aera D-1 Diver Watch from start to finish, evident in the fact that every last timepiece was assembled by hand.

Buying as a gift? The purchase comes with an Italian leather pouch, and the watch is also backed by a three-year warranty.

Though the brains (and hands) behind the D-1 Diver would likely be quick to admit that it has some inherently retro references, the last thing they’d want is for the watch to feel dated. The flexibility of the strap contributes to its contemporary allure, for instance, and there are also many elements that subtly allude to the golden era of the dive watch — among them markings traditional to the style and a 120-click rotating bezel (which has historically allowed wearers to track elapsed time underwater).

Whether the man in your life treats his wrist with the Todd Snyder x Aera D-1 Diver Watch at the office, the scuba trip, or the yacht party is his choice. What’s for certain here: quality meant to last a lifetime, the kind of precision his demanding lifestyle deserves, and luxe looks that, by way of tapping into something timeless, skip any and all signs of gaudiness.

Grab the Todd Snyder–exclusive chronometer before that bezel can reach a full rotation.
