What It Costs To Fly Business Class On The World’s Longest Boeing 787 Routes

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner entered service with All Nippon Airways (ANA) in 2011, marking the first clean-sheet design in decades from the iconic American planemaker. Since then, the jet has become one of the best products in Boeing’s lineup, especially as the 747 assembly line finally shuttered in 2023 after nearly six decades. As some of its other platforms have experienced significant difficulties in recent years, such as the 737 MAX and the forthcoming 777X, the Dreamliner continues to grow in popularity.

The 787 is especially loved by airlines for its flexibility. The jet’s exceptionally efficient fuel consumption means that carriers can fly a widebody for around the same price as a narrowbody. The aircraft comes in three sizes, with the middle-size 787-9 being the longest range variant in the Dreamliner family.

In this roundup of ultra-long-haul business routes, we are going to break down the longest distance routes being flown around the world on the Dreamliner and how much a ticket costs to climb aboard.

In broad strokes, booking a business class airfare on the four carriers listed in this review ranges in price from $6,000 on the low end to $20,000 or more on the higher end. Qantas takes the lead with the longest routes being flown by Dreamliners today. United Airlines is not far behind, and as the owner of the world’s largest commercial aircraft fleet, it dominates in terms of total number of routes.

American Airlines and Air Canada both make the list with one route each, and while they may not match the volume of the other two operators, the itineraries featured are unique within the respective airlines’ portfolios. The routes listed below reflect schedule data for December 2025, and ticket pricing is sourced directly from the booking portals on each airline’s website.

The Qantas experience is generally regarded as the highest standard among these competitors. Reviews reference the personalized service, restaurant-quality dining, and reliably consistent experience. Air Canada is also highly regarded; this particular route features a very exclusive ground service product.

United Airlines’ cabin comes in a slightly lower ranking due to having the least private space, but high-quality and consistent service keeps it ahead of American. American Airlines has a highly competitive cabin product with very modern suites featuring privacy doors. However, enduring complaints of inconsistent service continue to keep its ranking average below that of others.

The Qantas Portfolio

The first Qantas route connects Perth on the West Coast of Australia to the United Kingdom’s capital via London Heathrow Airport. Next on the list is Melbourne to Dallas-Fort Worth in Texas. Then we have a flight from Perth to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Finally, there is an itinerary from New Zealand’s Auckland International to John F. Kennedy Airport in New York.

Flying from Perth to London is nearly 18 hours from chock to chock. Tailwind from the jet stream reduces the return flight to Australia by about one hour. Flying between New York and Auckland is about the same time on both legs. Meanwhile, Dallas to Melbourne takes nearly as long; the outbound flight from Australia to Texas is closer to 15.5 hours. The Perth to Paris route is similar to the Texas time frame, though the return flight to Australia is typically a bit longer.

United Airlines has a more diverse set of destinations and its ultra-long-haul (ULH) Dreamliner schedule. The longest of them all is between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Texas and Sydney, Australia. There is a unique itinerary from Newark International to Johannesburg in South Africa. The last east coast-based Dreamliner ULH itinerary is a route to Cape Town, South Africa.

Moving on to West Coast connections, we have a 787 flight from San Francisco to Singapore, followed by San Francisco to Adelaide, Australia. There is an option to fly from Los Angeles International to Melbourne, Australia. Last of all, a popular Dreamliner flight from San Francisco to Melbourne.

The longest flights on this list are between 16.5 and 17.5 hours. Even the shortest flights are over 14 hours. Eastbound legs tend to be the quicker routes with the prevailing jet stream winds. Departing Singapore for San Francisco is shorter than the return flight to Singapore from SFO.

The United Polaris experience may not be as decadent as that of airlines like Emirates or Singapore Airlines, but it is well-loved by travelers for its good value and consistent flying experience. The cabin is configured in a 1-2-1 layout, and every seat turns to fully flat with approximately six feet and six inches of sleeping space. United is also debuting an extra premium heavy Dreamliner later this month, with flights coming after the new year, featuring an “elevated interior” on select routes from SFO.

American Airlines operates a nonstop, seasonal service between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Brisbane (BNE). Round-trip ticket prices for this evening start around $6,000 and go up from there. Prices can be much higher for last-minute travel or during peak holiday periods, reaching over $15,000 during the December holiday period. However, winter is typically less expensive than summer travel along this air corridor from America’s “heartland” to the “land down under.

Below is an average airfare price for December as estimated using the American Airlines website, with this month’s total flight statistics:

Flights typically depart DFW in the late evening, and the non-stop flight duration is approximately 16 to 17 hours. Due to crossing the International Date Line (IDL), the flight arrives in Brisbane two calendar days later in the early morning. Fortunately, the American Airlines Flagship Suite makes this long flight one of the most enjoyable international flights.

The Flagship Suite has a sliding door that creates an essentially fully enclosed space. The seats convert into a fully lie-flat bed, which, combined with premium bedding from Nest, enhances comfort. The cabin is configured in a 1-2-1 arrangement, giving direct aisle access to every seat. The front row even has 20% extra legroom. Passengers receive high-quality amenities, including pajamas, slippers, mattress pads, and an amenity kit featuring skincare products from Joanna Vargas.
