Toronto man charged with terrorism-related offences, RCMP say

TORONTO — A Toronto man has been charged with multiple terrorism-related offences in what RCMP say is an ongoing investigation.

The Mounties say their national security enforcement team arrested 27-year-old Waleed Khan in late November over alleged activities that took place between mid-June and mid-August.

They say the allegations include providing property knowing it would be used by or benefit ISIS and providing social media accounts knowing they would be used by or benefit ISIS.

The allegations also include participating in the activities of a terrorist group by providing property to carry out terrorist activity and by making himself available to facilitate or commit a terror act, and conspiracy to commit murder for the benefit of a terrorist group.

RCMP Supt. James Parr says the arrest is the result of a significant investigation to disrupt threats to national security and preserve public safety.

Toronto police say the RCMP investigation splintered off from the force’s probe into alleged hate-motivated crimes, which led to dozens of charges against three suspects.
