The team over at Aspyr has released a free new challenge mode update for Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered to coincide with its debut on Google Play, iOS, and Switch 2.
New challenge mode, you say? What does that involve? Well, essentially, players can really test their tomb raiding skills thanks to new difficulty customisation options, which include the ability to modify things like health, damage, bonuses, and enemies.
This, Aspyr said, will “create new challenges with endless replayability”, and the higher the challenge rating, the more goodies you’ll unlock.
Unlockables include 10 new outfits for Lara, one of which immediately made me think of Wonder Woman meets centurion (see the trailer below). Each of these outfits has a different bonus to help Lara along the way, such as one which boosts her running speed.
Meanwhile, if you’re someone who likes to go collecting achievements in games, there are an additional 15 of them in this latest update.
As for its arrival on Switch 2, those who already own Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered on the original Switch can upgrade for free “soon”. This version will feature enhanced resolution of 1440p at 60fps when the Switch 2 is docked, and 1080p resolution at 120fps in handheld mode.
On its release back in 2024, we awarded Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered four stars, while acknowledging some of its dated qualities.
“I still love this collection, because it’s carefully made and lovingly updated, but also awkward, elbowy, frustrating and prone to leaving me stuck. It’s a collection that understands that Tomb Raider was absolutely a game about its controls, and it still should be – even if it doesn’t quite know how to deliver on that,” Christian Donlan wrote in his Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered review.
