Meanwhile Via Rail’s most heavily travelled services have deteriorated horribly in recent decades under Liberal governments — and Conservative governments too, but the Tories aren’t the ones playing Self-Righteous Railroad Tycoon. When I lived in Montreal 25 years ago, there was one train a day that took four hours to get you to Toronto, or vice-versa. It was much cheaper than flying, and it didn’t take much longer, if at all, depending on where exactly you were starting and ending up.
