The Airlines That Offer Amenity Kits To Economy Passengers On Long-Haul Flights

When traveling economy class, items such as amenity kits are a rare find, and certainly receiving one on a long-haul flight feels like a luxurious touch. They have those comfort items that make a long-haul flight more bearable, like a sleep mask, earplugs, and a dental kit. Some airlines have collaborated with designer names like Bulgari, Diptyque, and Lalique for their premium class amenity kits, but many are phasing out their offerings in economy class, with some care items being ‘on request’ only.

Some large international or full-service airlines still offer amenity kits on selected flights in economy class over a certain period. You can only be assured of one in first class, business class, and possibly premium economy. Which airlines still offer amenity kits to economy class passengers on long-haul flights, and what might you find inside them in 2026?

These are usually handed out on flights over five hours; an alternative amenity kit may be given on longer routes or selected routes.

Key Takeaways

Amenity kits in economy class are very rare, available only on ultra-long-haul flights, on selected routes, and only on full-service airlines. These will include basic comfort items, such as a dental kit, lip balm, an eye mask, and socks. Premium cabins receive upgraded, often branded amenity kits that elevate their products. Rising costs and cheaper flights, along with the reduction of single-use products, have led to lower amenity costs for economy-class passengers.

The first amenity kits came about in the early days of commercial aviation in the 1930s. The airlines hired nurses as flight attendants to calm nervous flyers. They would hand out cotton wool balls and chewing gum to cope with the noise and discomfort of flying in a non-pressurized cabin. During the 1950s and 1960s, amenities became much more elaborate, including matches, razors, mouthwash, and even miniature liquor bottles.

Today’s amenity kits serve a practical purpose, but in premium cabins, they are often branded to differentiate airlines and show allegiance to certain brands. The premium amenity kits often come in different colors and designs, making them a more collectible item for passengers. Amenity kits are also often found for sale online and are popular with collectors.
