A suspicious package has reduced air traffic at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

A spokesperson for the airport said the number of flights into the airport has been reduced due to a “package of interest” on board an aircraft that landed in Montreal. Police are investigating.

One of two runways is closed, but the other is open, according to the spokesperson.

The American Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) said on its website that there was a “ground stop” for flights from some American airports departing for YUL, the code for the Montreal airport. The ground stop means those flights will not take off.

The FAA warning cited a bomb threat for the ground stop but a spokesperson for the Quebec provincial police force insisted there was no bomb threat. The spokersperson said police were looking into an incident at the airport.

The ground stop is slated to last until at least 5:15 p.m., according to the FAA.

This is a breaking news story. More to come.
