Spending plans, South American trade and industrial carbon price on the agenda

What’s on the agenda for the House and Senate committees today.

Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault will brief PROCEDURE AND HOUSE AFFAIRS members on the latest budget allotments for his office, as laid out in the main estimates, before the committee circles back to its ongoing study of the “current state of civic resilience in Canada” during a panel discussion with representatives of the Equitas — International Centre for Human Rights, New Majority and Samara Centre for Democracy. (11 a.m.)

Meanwhile, officials with the Canadian Meat Council, Chicken Farmers of Canada and Fertilizer Canada are set to share their collective and respective perspectives with INTERNATIONAL TRADE members as they explore trade relations between Canada and the South American members of the Mercosur trading bloc. (11 a.m.)

Over at AGRICULTURE AND AGRI-FOOD, MPs get an update on “business risk management programs” from a panel of departmental officials. (11 a.m.)

Also this morning:

  • STATUS OF WOMEN members hear from HelpAge Canada, Association québécoise de défense des droits des personnes retraitées et préretraitées and the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council as they launch a new investigation into the “abuse and financial vulnerability of senior women.” (11 a.m.)
  • NATURAL RESOURCES members continue their self-initiated examination of Canada’s energy exports with back-to-back testimony from Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami president Natan Obed, Canadian Nuclear Association CEO George Christidis, Hydrogen Canada president Bryan Moon and University of Ottawa professor Marie-Christine Doran. (11 a.m.)
  • Sen. Yvonne Boyer presents her Senate-backed push to criminalize forced sterilization at INDIGENOUS AND NORTHERN AFFAIRS. (11 a.m.)

Later this afternoon, ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, MPs take a closer look at the industrial carbon pricing system during a panel discussion with representatives of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Pembina Institute and Resource Works Society, as well as the Canadian Climate Institute, Clean Prosperity and Université du Québec à Montréal associate professor Charles Séguin. (3:30 p.m.)

Rounding out the roster, GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS AND ESTIMATES members dig into the fine print of the ongoing expenditure review process with officials from Library and Archives Canada, as well as the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association and Western Crop Innovations. (3:30 p.m.)
