The Scholar remembrance quest in Elden Ring Nightreign‘s DLC, The Forsaken Hollows, will give you more insight into who this intellectual Nightfarer is. In addition to their lore, you’ll gain a few rewards like the Scholar’s Chalice relic rite and the Crystal Tear relic. However, progressing through the remembrance quest itself can be a very difficult task as you’ll need to navigate your way new areas and defeat some powerful Nightlord along the way.
Here’s how to complete the Scholar remembrance quest in Elden Ring Nightreign‘s DLC, The Forsaken Hollows.
At the time of this writing, we have completed up to Chapter 6, but we will update this guide once we have progressed further.
How to start the Scholar remembrance quest in Elden Ring Nightreign
Before we start, make sure you have The Forsaken Hollows installed and the Scholar unlocked. This will unlock the Scholar’s first chapter in the journal. To unlock Chapter 2 and 3, you’ll need to play a few runs as the Scholar and collect some memory fragments. If you want to get to Chapter 3 as fast as possible, you’ll need to defeat a Nightlord while playing as the Scholar. However, you’ll end up unlocking it eventually just by playing. Once you return to the Roundtable and receive the “Memory fragment found” message two times, head to the Journal to start the remembrance quest.
Scholar Remembrance Quest Chapter 3
After you start the remembrance quest, examine the book on the table to learn that you need to search the underground chamber below the marsh. To get there, you’ll need to start an expedition for one of the two expeditions added with The Forsaken Hollows. In our case, we chose Balancers.
As you load into your game, open up your map to find the icon for your personal objective, which is a red banner. It’ll appear over an icon that looks similar to the Castle, but once you arrive, it definitely looks a little different. It appears to be a destroyed castle that is overflowing with status-inflicted water. The water’s status ailment will vary depending on the icon that you see on the map.
Head inside the building at the center and go through the hole in the wall on your left. The building will be full of enemies, which you can either defeat or ignore. Walk over to the edge and drop down onto the ledge below you, but not all the way to the bottom. After you drop down, look to the right to spot a softly lit window. Jump inside and drop into the hole on the floor. In the next room, interact with the glowing object on the table to collect Vassal’s Journal. From here, you can continue your run like normal as the next step will be back at the Roundhold Table. It does not matter if you defeat the Nightlord or not.
After you return, head to the Chapel to find the Undertaker… licking some purple goo off the wall. Talk to her and then talk to Iron Menial after they barge into the room. Analyze Vassal’s Journal on the desk in the Chapel and then talk to the Undertaker again to complete Chapter 3. Once you return from the remembrance quest, you’ll receive the Scholar’s Chalice vessel, which has one red, blue, and universal slot.
Scholar Remembrance Quest Chapter 5
To unlock Chapter 5, you’ll need to defeat any Nightlord to receive a memory fragment while playing as the Scholar. Return to the Journal and begin the remembrance quest for Chapter 5. Head over to the Small Jar Bazaar and ask to be shown the Great Hollow, which will immediately teleport you to a new area.
Once inside, you’ll encounter Lazuli Sorcerers, but you’re free to ignore them and head up to the top floor. After you go up the second set of stairs, go inside the room directly ahead of you and go through the room on your left to end up on the other side of the giant rock hanging from the ceiling. Scale up the chained rock and carefully jump onto the rafters to your left. Go into the big hole in the wall and try to interact with the door only to find out that it’s not examinable at the moment, but you do hear a big crash that you’ll need to go check out. Drop down and head back to the second floor to find a “Marauder,” which is actually a Godskin Apostle and two knights. Defeat them and head back to the un-examinable door.
Inside, you’ll find a few papers on tables and a knight trapped in a giant crystal. Interact with everything you can to complete Chapter 5 of the remembrance quest. After you return to the Roundtable, you’ll receive the Cleansing Tear relic, which is a red relic that will make your Ultimate Art deal continuous damage to all inflicted enemies.
For now, that’s as far as we’ve progressed in the Scholar remembrance quest line, but we’ll update this guide with the last bit of information once we’ve completed it.
