Scentbird Launches Fragrance Blind Boxes

Scentbird is expanding its core offering.

The fragrance subscription platform is launching a new Scentbird Society program, wherein members who opt in will receive a monthly delivery of five mystery fragrances, each coming in 1.5-ml. vials and united by a rotating theme.

The program, priced at $17.90 for the first month and $22.95 thereafter, aims to offer a new means of scent discovery for new and existing subscribers alike.

“Our community has been clear: They want more than one scent a month and a real sense of what’s trending in fragrance,” said Elena Lécué, chief marketing officer at Scentbird. “With Scentbird Society, we’re introducing a format that brings together expert curation, storytelling and an element of surprise to create a more immersive journey.”

Scentbird, first launched in 2014, has boomed during the TikTok era as new generations have embraced fragrance and trends like scent wardrobing versus adopting signature scents.

Today, the platform has more than 1 million subscribers, who for $18 a month receive an 8-ml. supply of a fragrance of their choosing. Scents available via Scentbird range from designer offerings from Burberry, Gucci and Versace to niche scents by Ex Nihilo, Montale Paris and Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty, among others.

Those who opt into Scentbird Society will have the option to choose between a feminine- and masculine-leaning option each month.

“Strategically, Scentbird Society allows us to expand the ways our audience can engage with Scentbird, whether they’re building out a scent wardrobe or simply looking to discover something new,” Lécué said, adding that Bettina O’Neill, who is Scentbird’s executive vice president of business development and merchandising, will curate scents for the program.

The launch aligns with the fragrance community’s general appetite for sampling and experimentation.

For instance, “Perfume Room” podcast host Emma Vernon hosts a monthly Smell Club in partnership with Luckyscent wherein attendees meet via Zoom to smell and discuss themed fragrance sample packs. Perfume swaps, meanwhile, have also become increasingly popular in cities like New York and Los Angeles, offering attendees the opportunity to meet with fellow scent lovers and trade fragrances.

“Scentbird Society is a natural extension of how we’ve always approached fragrance discovery…but it takes it a step further through a more curated, insider-led experience,” Lécué said.
