Saturday Roundup: Marshwood/Traip, Winnacunnet wrestling teams open


YORK, Maine – The Marshwood/Traip high school wrestling team kicked off its season on Saturday, Dec. 6, placing third at the annual Sullivan Duals at York High School.

Marshwood went 3-1 on the day, beating Kennebunk (53-24), Wolfpack Wrestling Club (36-33) and Deering (45-29), while losing to Cheverus (45-30).

Against Deering, Colby Raeside (138 pounds), Foster Merrill (144), Liam Wyman (175), Jack Beauchesne (190) and Jacob Brengolini (285) all won by pin, while Owen Campbell (132) won by major decision, and Jon Buttrick (150) won by technical fall.

Against the Wolfpack, Kelsie String (113), Raeside, Buttrick, Wyman and Brengolini won by pin, and Noah Goodwin (165) and Beauchesne both won by decision.

Against Kennebunk, Buttrick, Beauchesne and Brengolini all won by pin, and String won by technical fall.

Against Cheverus, String, Raeside, Merrill, Goodwin and Brengolini all won by pin.

Winnacunnet places sixth at Kingswood Kickoff

WOLFEBORO – Winnacunnet’s Reid Campbell (157) and Anthony Novais (215) both won their respective weight classes at the 11-team Kingswood Kickoff.

Winnacunnet scored a total of 112.5 points and placed sixth, while Winnisquam won with 207 points. Kingswood, John Stark, Kearsage and Nashua North placed second through fourth, respectively. Lebanon, Dover, Conant, Oyster River, and Hillsboro-Deering placed seventh through 11th, respectively.

Other top-five placements for Winnacunnet included Luke Andruskevich (138, second), Mateo Tanida (106, third), Ethan Gahm (120, third), Kane Knight (126, fourth) and Bryce Mixon (157, fourth).
