Resident Evil Requiem Writer Suggests Spencer-Focused DLC Is Coming

Screenwriter Haris Orkin has teased plans for Resident Evil Requiem’s DLC. In a recent interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, he revealed that plans have been made to flesh out Oswell E. Spencer in upcoming DLC.

“I’m working on the DLC for Resident Evil Requiem right now,” Orkin said. “We’re working hand-in-hand.”

In Requiem, Spencer was a completely different character to how he was portrayed in previous games, switching from maniacal mastermind to redemptive figure filled with regret. It looks like we’ll get a deeper look at that shift in the upcoming DLC.

Later in the interview, Orkin spoke about his approach to writing villains. He explained that his villains always believe they’re the good guys of their story.

“We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem,” Orkin said. “Where you understand [that approach] more. And then in the DLC you will understand it even further. I probably shouldn’t say that, but yeah.”

Elsewhere in the interview, he talked about his approach to writing Grace, an FBI analyst with limited field experience. “I decided to put her on the spectrum,” Orkin said. “She’s an analyst. She’s really an expert at figuring out clues, but she’s not great at dealing with people. It was all part of creating that character.”

The writer announced his two-and-a-half year collaboration with Capcom in February. Resident Evil Requiem released that same month and landed an 89 Metascore. IGN’s Resident Evil Requiem review returned a 9/10. We said the game “successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation.”

In March, director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed plans to launch a major story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem, although he failed to offer details. Presumably the DLC Orkin is talking about here is that.

By April this year, Resident Evil Requiem had sold over 7 million copies, with 5 million of those sold in the first five days of release. Producer Masato Kumazawa teased a potential Resident Evil game set in Japan, but Capcom isn’t done with Resident Evil remakes just yet.
