Resident Evil Requiem director appears to pour water over those rumours about Leon Kennedy’s private life

Resident Evil Requiem’s Koshi Nakanishi has implied that those viral screenshots which made it look like the director was hinting at just who Leon’s long-term romantic partner actually is were doctored.

Please be aware of spoilers for Resident Evil Requiem below.

After completing Resident Evil Requiem, players are able to unlock concept art which shows Leon with a wedding band on his ring finger. However, just who Leon’s lucky spouse is, remains unclear in the game.

Many therefore reached out to Nakanishi to ask for a little bit of clarification on that wedding ring, with camps falling largely into Team Ada or Team Claire (our Matt, meanwhile, is on Team Chris).

What then happened was alleged screenshots showing exchanges between Nakanishi and fans started peppering social media, which appeared to show the director heavily implying Leon and Ada had tied the knot. One such conversation went like this: “Leon and Ada are now married?” “You know what I mean.”

But, plot twist! Nakanishi may never have actually said those things. In a series of stories over on his personal Instagram account, the director thanked the many Resident Evil fans for their enthusiasm, admitting it has been hard for him to keep on top of all the messages coming his way, and he can’t reply to everyone. He then said he has been “called out for screenshots of edited messages” (thanks, Kotaku), implying that he never actually suggested Leon and Ada were married.

Now, to be fair, Nakanishi could (could) be saying that he means ‘edited messages’ as in, ‘someone on social media had collected screenshots of my chats and edited them together to make a separate post on X’ (see below), but he could also be saying that the contents of those messages themselves were edits.

I have asked Capcom for more clarification on this – eventually we will find out who Leon’s spouse is. Perhaps we will find out more in Resident Evil Requiem’s newly-announced story expansion.

Or, perhaps I should just admit it is me – you have never met my husband, who added his Kennedy name to mine all those years ago, so who are you to say I am not actually married to Leon? Got you there, haven’t I.
