Prepare your decks once more, Slay the Spire 2 is now out in early access

Hear ye, hear ye! It is time to play your hand, for the day of prophecy has come: Slay the Spire 2 has, finally, launched into early access. I know, I know, there’s some game about running a marathon or something by a team of folks that run a bungee jumping business out today too. Forget that! Running is difficult, deckbuilding is… also difficult, but, I don’t like running, so there.

With the release of the sequel into early access comes a Steam post that discusses its very status as an early access game. “The Spire truly is ever-changing… in more ways than one. While Slay the Spire 2 already has more content than Slay the Spire 1, even more content – including cards, events, environments, enemies, and more – will be added and balanced throughout Early Access,” the post in question explains.

“We don’t have a specific timeline to share with you all, but we’ll be sure to keep you regularly updated and give you peeks behind the development curtain. Your feedback (as well as your fanart and memes) will be invaluable throughout this process, just as it was with the first game. This time, you’ll be able to submit your feedback and bug reports in-game! Join the journey now to be a part of the Spire’s next evolution.”

In terms of what you can expect from this follow-up, there’ll be both new and returning characters, all with unique sets of cards, “motives, and secrets.” Perhaps the biggest addition is a completely new co-op mode, where you and up to three of your friends (or enemies, if you’re freaky like that) can play together to take on the challenge of the spire. There’s even some multiplayer-only cards and “powerful team synergies.” Neat!

Mega Crit also apparently intend to add more modes, balance improvements, and a true ending, but one thing that is worth noting is that it’ll be more expensive once the early access period is over (which will be in one to two years, so they estimate). Perhaps the time to pick it up is now so your wallet is grateful later. Which, you can do so on Steam right here, if it so takes your fancy.
