Nimfasha Berchimas: Man United plot transfer raid for US wonderkid

Manchester United are plotting to hijack a deal for Nimfasha Berchimas after the American wonderkid impressed the club during a trial at Carrington, according to a new report.

The next big thing

Berchimas is enjoying a “meteoric rise” with Charlotte FC as the 17-year-old has established himself as an “elite” prospect in Major League Soccer.

The ambipedal winger, capable of playing on either flank with equal effectiveness, possesses outstanding mobility, both in terms of initial acceleration and top-end speed, which routinely leave defenders for dead.

However, it is the youngster’s “composure under pressure” which has blown scouts away, with his decision-making belying his years, Sports Boom reveals.

Berchimas does not turn 18 until later this month, and his contract has an option to be extended until 2027, giving Charlotte “significant leverage” over his future. There is “no immediate rush” from The Crown to finalise a departure during the MLS winter window, which closes on March 26.

Accordingly, the report states a transfer in the summer is the “most likely scenario” for the big hope for US ‘soccer’, with growing interest from across the pond.

United plot a hijack

Sports Boom reveal the youngster’s potential has caught the eye of Europe’s elite after he “impressed during trials” at numerous top clubs, including the Red Devils.

This interest has made Berchimas the “centrepiece of a high-stakes” transfer battle, with Bayern Munich understood to be “leading the charge” ahead of their rivals on the continent.

“Bayern Munich has maintained aggressive contact ever since his trial period in Germany, giving them a significant head start over domestic rivals,” the report details.

“Heavyweights such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle, and Borussia Dortmund are all closely following his development.”

However, United are now “looking to hijack the deal” ahead of the Bundesliga champions as INEOS continue to prioritise the capture of the best young talent from across the globe.

Negotiations between Charlotte and Bayern are believed to be “very promising” – with an expectation Berchimas will arrive at the Allianz Arena for pre-season this summer if talks “proceed without a hitch”.

But the report concludes the Red Devils, along with Chelsea, pose a serious “threat” to this plan as the Premier League giants are famed for their “aggressive late-stage bidding.”
