New Smart Light Strips Offer Inventive Last-Minute Halloween Glow Art

GE Cync — one of my favorite brands for home light management via app — has released two new outdoor smart light products, available to buy now. They feature interesting features for last-minute Halloween decor or people looking to make permanent changes to their holiday lights

Don’t miss any of our unbiased tech content and lab-based reviews. Add CNET as a preferred Google source.

First is Cync’s new-gen smart outdoor light strip ($36), now with added flexibility to twist into shapes that can match any holiday — a decoration you can keep pulling out all year, thanks in part to LED lights with color-changing abilities controlled by the Cync app. you can cut these 16- to 32-foot waterproof light strips to size and hook them into shapes or attach them to a layout grid.

For quieter uses, the light strips can line pathways and steps for safety, but if you prefer them as decor for celebrations, the music-syncing mode can make Cync’s lights far more lively. Alexa and Google Home support are also included for broader smart home control.

The second product now available from Cync is the 100-foot Dynamic Effects outdoor smart eave lights ($143). If you’ve ever gotten tired of taking Christmas lights down or left them up a little longer than necessary, permanent eave lights like these present an alternative. With their all-weather construction and two-year warranty, these lights stay up all year, allowing you to switch their individual colors for palettes that match any holiday or get-together.

Like the light strips, Cync’s outdoor lights offer millions of color options via the app, along with brightness controls and voice command options from Alexa or Google Home/Gemini. The strips are cuttable and are designed to screw into eaves permanently once prepared.

“As exterior lighting moves past the traditional floodlight, these refreshed Cync smart outdoor lights give families more ways to personalize their homes,” Kara Perdue, VP of product management at GE Lighting, said in a statement. “Whether customers want to add accent lighting for security and aesthetics, go big for the holidays or cheer on their local team, our smart lights make it simple to customize their lighting.”
