New Democrats will continue fighting for working Canadians « Canada’s NDP

NDP Leader Don Davies made the following statement to mark the last day of the fall sitting:

“2025 was a very eventful year for Canadians. The impacts of US President Trump’s attacks on our nation’s sovereignty and our economy have been felt by Canadians of all walks of life.

People are struggling to make ends meet, grocery prices continue to rise, an affordable home is hard to find, and workers are worried about their jobs.
New Democrats have made a real difference in the House of Commons. The national school food program has been made permanent, over 6 million Canadians are now accessing dental care, and every day the concerns of working Canadians are brought to Parliament thanks to New Democrats.

Unfortunately, the Liberals continue to take the wrong approach. They brought in a budget that missed the moment, and in the middle of a crisis they are cutting jobs and services families rely on. And they are giving big companies like Algoma Steel and Stellantis hundreds of millions of dollars while they eliminate good, family-sustaining union jobs.

Canadians want real investments in a stronger and more sustainable economy that works for people. Instead, Mark Carney is ripping up 50-years of coastal protection and putting billions of dollars in investments at risk by cozying up to Danielle Smith and big oil companies. Only New Democrats will protect our coast, defend Indigenous rights and address the climate crisis.

New Democrats are proud to stand up for working Canadians. With the country teetering on the edge of a recession, and more uncertainty on the horizon due to Donald Trump, we will continue to push for tangible measures to help working families now.”
