Minister Anandasangaree debuts lawful access bill


The Carney government’s first attempt at these laws, in Bill C-2, caused a backlash from civil liberty and privacy activists, some legal experts, and opposition politicians, and the new bill addresses some of the complaints.

Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree is presenting the Carney government’s second attempt at “lawful access” reforms to give police and intelligence agents a quicker and easier way to access Canadians’ electronic data legally.
