March 27, 2026 – Vaux-de-Cernay, France – Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, yesterday met with Kaja Kallas, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vaux-de-Cernay, France.
They discussed how Canada and the European Union can support regional stability in the Middle East and maintain strong international focus on a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
Minister Anand and EU High Representative Kallas reaffirmed their steadfast support for Ukraine and resolve to sustain economic pressure on Russia to end its war. In light of higher oil prices and ongoing global market challenges, they discussed how sanctions targeting the Russian energy sector should be further strengthened in a way that continues to constrain Russian revenues while avoiding disruptions to global crude supply.
They also underscored the importance of Canada-EU collaboration in advancing the return of Ukrainian children deported and forcibly transferred by Russia, as well as unlawfully detained civilians and the exchange of prisoners of war—essential steps toward a just and lasting peace.
