Minister Anand highlights assistance to respond to urgent needs stemming from crisis in Gaza and West Bank

July 29, 2025 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, concluded her participation in the “United Nations High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.” The conference is being co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia from July 28 to 30, 2025.

At the conference, Minister Anand announced that Canada will provide new funding of $30 million to help address the humanitarian needs of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. She also announced an additional $10 million to support the Palestinian Authority’s role in stabilizing and governing the West Bank.

Minister Anand thanked France and Saudi Arabia for hosting the conference and for reinvigorating international efforts toward a two-state solution. She highlighted Canada’s long-standing support for the two-state solution, including the creation of an independent, democratic, viable and sovereign Palestinian state that excludes Hamas from governance. The Minister underscored the need for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages and the need for the Israeli government to allow the sustained and large-scale delivery of humanitarian aid—and to make this humanitarian access permanent.

The Minister further emphasized that Canada is ready to support early recovery efforts, when conditions allow, through $20 million in funding to the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) to help resume basic health services, as previously announced in March 2025.

While in New York City, the Minister also held bilateral meetings with her counterparts and international partners, including those from Norway, France, Brazil, Chile, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.
