Metal Gear Solid Movie to be Directed by Final Destination Bloodlines Duo

Final Destination Bloodlines filmmakers Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein will direct a live-action feature film adaptation of Konami and Hideo Kojima’s iconic video game franchise, Metal Gear Solid.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the duo are making the Metal Gear Solid movie for Sony’s Columbia Pictures as part of a first-look deal between Sony Pictures and the filmmakers’ new production company, Wonderlab.

Lipovsky and Stein said in a statement: “Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”

A movie version of Metal Gear Solid has been lingering in development hell since it was first announced back in 2012.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was previously attached to direct an adaptation that he said aimed to be a “riskier, balls-to-the-wall, Kojima-san version” of the game.”

Oscar Isaac had been attached to star in the Vogt-Roberts iteration as the game’s stealthy spec ops protagonist, Solid Snake. No word yet on whether Lipovsky and Stein would still want Isaac to star.

Metal Gear Solid will be produced by Ari and Avi Arad. The father-son team previously produced live-action movie adaptations of Borderlands and Uncharted. Avi Arad, of course, ran Marvel Studios before Kevin Feige took over.
