MCA launches women’s edition of T20 Mumbai League

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has launched the women’s edition of the T20 Mumbai League, their franchise-based tournament. The men’s league is three seasons old, and its latest edition was played in June 2025, soon after the IPL.

Mumbai man Rohit Sharma, the face of the league, unveiled the trophies for the upcoming men’s and women’s editions in Mumbai on Saturday. While the men’s league features eight teams, the women’s edition will start with three teams. It is expected that the matches will be played simultaneously, soon after the IPL ends.

The three women’s teams will be operated by PRS Infraprojects LLP, Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd and World Star Sporting Private Limited.

“I’m very happy with how Mumbai cricket is shaping up – not just in the IPL team, but also with what the T20 Mumbai League has done for many young cricketers,” Rohit said. “We saw so many cricketers who played in the T20 Mumbai now go on to play for IPL teams and the national team as well. It is a big platform. I’m happy that we are doing this again after a very successful last season. I was involved last season. I saw it was a very tough task. I have to give credit to each and every member of the MCA for pulling it through. This year, there are three women’s teams as well, so it’s getting bigger.”

The MCA is yet to release the schedule for either tournament. It’s likely the fixtures will be out once the full IPL schedule is announced. Currently, the IPL schedule has been announced only for the first 20 matches, which will be played from March 28 to April 12. A partial schedule was announced because elections are set for many states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam, where three teams play their home games. The rest of the IPL fixtures will be out once the Election Commission of India finalises the dates for the elections in those states.

Mumbai allrounder Sayali Satghare, who recently made her Test debut in Australia at the WACA Ground and won the WPL with RCB last month, said: “Mumbai has always been a city that lives and breathes cricket, and it means a lot to see a dedicated platform now being created for women as well. I would like to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association for taking this important step and investing in the future of women’s cricket. The T20 Mumbai Women’s League will give many young girls the opportunity to dream bigger, compete at a high level and believe that they too can represent Mumbai and India one day.”

The last season of the men’s T20 Mumbai League saw a number of star players participate, including Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Shreyas Iyer, and upcoming players such as Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Musheer Khan. The 2025 final was played on June 12 at the Wankhede Stadium, where Siddhesh Lad led Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals to the title with a victory over SoBo Mumbai Falcons led by Iyer.
