Marathon’s ultra challenging raid-like Cryo Archive map releases in only a few hours, here’s what you need to know

After a lengthy saga of solving puzzles and wiping out robots, Marathon’s fourth map will be added to the game in a matter of hours. You’ll want to jump in quickly though; it’s only available to play during the weekend.

The Cryo Archive – the hardest activity available in the game for now – will go live on the 20th March worldwide. According to a new Bungie blog post, you’ll have to team up with a crew of other players to tackle tough PvE fights and other players at once, as you navigate six wings with a central hub connecting them all.

To celebrate the introduction of this map, a fancy new trailer has been released for the game, which you can watch below.

The map will feature tough fights, puzzles, and some fun challenges to work towards. There’s also a selection of cryo vaults you’ll need to unlock by increasing your security clearance level, which you’ll want to do as they hold some unique and incredibly valuable loot.

We still don’t know how to extract from the Cryo Archive, except that it’ll work differently than the other three maps. You and your team of three will be able to select from seven contracts to compete for extra rewards.

As for what you need to actually access the Cryo Archive, it’ll take an account level of at least 25, connection with all six factions, and a minimum gear score of 5,000 credits. So here’s hoping you’ve saved up a bit before today!

If you don’t fancy taking on this new map just yet, there’s also the new ranked mode coming to Marathon the day after. However, it’s proving a touch confusing for some, leading Bungie to release a maths test as homework ahead of time.
