A man was struck and killed by a SkyTrain at the Main Street-Science World Station in Vancouver on Friday, in what police believe to be an accident.

Officers were called to the scene just after 8 p.m., where they found a man in medical distress, according to a statement emailed to CBC News from Metro Vancouver Transit Police.

It said the man died at the scene, despite life saving measures by first responders.

Police say the death does not appear suspicious and criminality is not suspected.

At this point in the investigation, we also do not believe it was a suicide attempt, but accidental,” said the statement.

The incident closed the SkyTrain station down for over four hours as police investigated and awaited the arrival of the coroner.

B.C. Emergency Health Services confirmed to CBC News two ambulances responded to the incident, and no patients were taken to hospital.
