Let’s A-finally Go – Lego is actually giving Mario the proper minifigure treatment at last

After largely relegating Nintendo’s mascot to a squat, blocky form with its Interactive models, Lego is finally giving Mario the proper minifigure treatment.

We got our first look at the Mario minifigure thanks to a Mario Day post on social media, which showed a plastic version of Nintendo’s mustachioed plumber leaping out of a warp pipe.

His head, though, seems different to a typical Lego minifigure’s, with features such as Mario’s hat and moustache looking as though they are part of the mold itself rather than either removable or just painted on.

“New form unlocked!” the newest Lego-flavoured Nintendo post proclaimed, with that aforementioned animation of Mario.

So far, response to this upcoming Lego collaboration has been pretty positive. “DUDE THIS IS ACTUALLY AMAZING THANK YOU LEGO,” reads one reply on the original social media post, with another adding: “Oh my god it’s ACTUAL LEGO Mario.”

As for when we may be able to get our hands on minifigure Mario, he will be arriving some time in 2027. I wonder if we will also see Luigi, Peach and co also getting a minifigure makeover?

This Mario minifigure of course isn’t Lego’s only collaboration with Nintendo. Earlier this year, the two companies unveiled their previously announced Pokémon sets, which include Pikachu and Poké Ball, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise and Eevee.

Soon after these particular sets went live, resale sites such as eBay became awash with the Lego Pokémon Kanto Region Badge Collection, which was only available via Lego as a free gift for those that pre-ordered the most expensive set from the collection, the Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise model.
