Kirby Air Riders’ team will disband after final balance adjustments

One of the best racing games of the year

Kirby Air Riders, that unexpected Nintendo Switch 2 kart racer that Polygon’s review described as “everything I could have wanted and more,” will only receive one more balance patch before support is dropped and the development team disbands. This comes from Masahiro Sakurai, game director for Air Riders and the creator of the Kirby series.

“As discussed in Air Riders Direct 2, Kirby Air Riders does not have a production setup for DLC or anything like that,” reads Sakurai’s post on X. “The team will be disbanding in the near future as well. Therefore, while we still have a short period of time to make adjustments, we’re aiming for a balance that can be enjoyed without issues even years from now. We might be able to tweak it one more time or so, but after that, please enjoy it as the completed balance!”

This news comes after version 1.2.0 was released recently, which also featured balance adjustments for every kart, along with one rider.

Before Kirby Air Riders launched, Sakurai confirmed there were no plans for DLC in the first place, so while the lack of future balance updates may be a disappointment, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise for fans.
