Fairchild Media Group is pleased to announce that Kate Nishimura, deputy editor of Sourcing Journal, and Angela Velasquez, executive editor of SJ Denim, will co-lead Sourcing Journal’s editorial content.
In their expanded roles, Nishimura and Velasquez will guide the publication’s editorial strategy, building on its reputation for tackling complex industry topics — including trade, labor, sustainability, material innovation, logistics and AI — while further strengthening its position as a leading authority on the global supply chain.
“Sourcing Journal is a cornerstone of the Fairchild Media Group portfolio, serving a vital audience of experts whose work is central to the global fashion ecosystem,” said Amanda Smith, chief executive officer of Fairchild Media Group. “As we look to the future, we are committed to investing in the brand’s editorial leadership and business teams to ensure we continue to drive the industry’s most critical conversations. From the upcoming Sustainability Forum in April and the signature Fall Summit in September, to the launch of a new event celebrating industry visionaries coming this July, we are making strategic enhancements that underscore our dedication to the leaders and innovators who are shaping the next era of our business.”
“As the current macroeconomic challenges and disruption show, sourcing and logistics are key to the global retail, fashion and related industries, and Sourcing Journal remains the pre-eminent authority in covering the intricacies of supply chains, materials, sustainability, trade and labor,” said James Fallon, chief content officer of Fairchild Media Group. “We are thrilled to have Kate and Angela take over the editorial leadership of Sourcing Journal and their experience, insights and dedication, along with that of the overall Sourcing Journal team, will help drive the publication to become even more valuable to readers and the overall industry.”
Velasquez joined Sourcing Journal in 2014 and soon after founded SJ Denim (formerly Rivet). She has since played a pivotal role in establishing the publication’s authority in the denim space, leading in-depth coverage of mills, manufacturers, sustainability and brands, while shaping the narrative around denim’s influence across both heritage fashion and emerging, youth-driven trends.
“I’m honored and excited to step into this role and co-lead Sourcing Journal’s content alongside Kate,” Velasquez said. “I look forward to building on the publication’s strong foundation and continuing to deliver meaningful, forward-looking coverage for the industry.”
Nishimura joined the publication in 2019, where she established Sourcing Journal’s presence on the West Coast. During her tenure, she has expanded coverage of trade, policy, domestic production and nearshoring, helping to connect global geopolitical shifts with their impact on the fashion sourcing landscape.
“Angela and I are proud of the role Sourcing Journal has come to play as a trusted resource for the fashion and retail supply chain over the past 16 years,” Nishimura said. “I’m eager to continue building on that legacy with her and our expert team of editors as we enrich our coverage and broaden our influence.”
Sourcing Journal is part of Fairchild Media Group, a division of Penske Media Corp. Fairchild also owns WWD, Footwear News, Beauty Inc and Fairchild Live.
