Iranian mines in Strait of Hormuz would be a nightmare for the West


During the Gulf war in 1991, Iraqi forces deployed 1,300 mines, badly damaging two U.S. navy ships, including the USS Princeton, which it cost about US$100 million to bring back on line, according to U.S. researcher Scott Truver, who has taught at the Naval War College.
