In the midst of EA’s controversial acquisition, Bioware moves to reassure fans that a new Mass Effect is definitely still in development

Bioware has released a blog post today to mark N7 day to reassure fans that the next Mass Effect game is still in development, stating the team “remain committed to telling more stories in this universe”.

Written by executive producer Mike Gamble, the blog shows the team’s hand, revealing the team is totally focused on Mass Effect now, thanking Mess Effect lovers for their support and patience.

Gamble wrote: “We have a lot of universe to cover, lots of features to build, and lots of romances to figure out. We’re excited by what we’re building, and we promise you: when we’re ready, it’ll be a lot of fun to show.”

Remember when Chris Pratt used to work here? He made this video on Mass Effect: Andromeda like eight years ago, check it out.Watch on YouTube

There are no new screenshots, no trailers, no gameplay. Nuthin’! But, it’s a sign of life from what is arguably Bioware’s most popular franchise, one that comes at an especially tender time for the company as its parent company EA is in the midst of a potential buyout by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and Private Equity companies.

Gamble also teased the Mass Effect TV show in the blog, which Bioware is partnering with Amazon for. However, again, there’s nothing from the production to show for now.

There is a fun paragraph on its progress though: “The writers room is going strong, and we’ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game. The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won’t be a retread of Commander Shepard’s story – because after all … that’s YOUR story, isn’t it?”

Gamble would conclude the blog by pointing fans to socials, as Mass Effect crossover cosmetics are coming to other EA games including Apex Legends and Skate. Finally, he promises fans there’s no secret message in the blog. Still, be sure to spend hours pouring over it, why not. It’s what Liara would want, I’m sure.

The future of Mass Effect and Bioware has been up in the air recently, with some studio veterans feeling Bioware is about making: “the kind of games that this new company isn’t interested in making anymore”. Still, there’s a lot of love for Mass Effect and Bioware both, and it would be nice for the remaining team to score a major win, especially with everything else going on.
