Voters in the riding of Chicoutimi will head to the polls next month.

A byelection is set for Feb. 23.

The National Assembly seat was left vacant last September after Andrée Laforest quit provincial politics to run for mayor in Saguenay. Her bid was unsuccessful.

The announcement for the Chicoutimi byelection comes a little less than a week after François Legault announced he was stepping down as the premier of Quebec and the leader of Coalition Avenir Québec (the CAQ), the party he founded.
