ROLE PLAYING: Givenchy has appointed acclaimed Chinese actress Yang Zi its new house ambassador in China, effective immediately.
“I’ve always admired Sarah Burton’s vision for Givenchy and the sense of elegance she brings to the house,” Yang, 33, said in a statement shared first with WWD. “For me, elegance is deeply personal — it comes from the confidence to be true to yourself.”
She remarked that her new role as brand ambassador affords her “the opportunity to explore new expressions of style and, together with the house, express a vision of femininity defined by elegance and strength.”

In the two decades since her on-screen debut, Yang has grown from child star into one of the leading figures in China’s entertainment industry, working across film, television, fashion and philanthropy. She is best known for roles in hit drama series including “Ashes of Love,” “Go Go Squid!” and “Lost You Forever.”
She counts more than 93 million followers on Instagram, Weibo, Xiaohongshu and Douyin combined.
Over the summer, Yang received the Magnolia Award for Best Actress at the 31st Shanghai Television Festival for her portrayal of Bai Ju, an environmentally conscious police officer in “Born to Be Alive,” becoming the first “post-’90s” actress to win the accolade.
Yang has appeared in numerous other films and TV series including “Home With Kids,” “Battle of Changsha,” “Yangko Dance,” “Ode to Joy,” “Noble Aspirations,” “The Oath of Love,” “Immoral Samsara” and “Best Choice Ever.”
Over the years she’s been associated with a host of fashion and beauty brands, including Valentino, Olay, Prada Beauty, Michael Kors, Pomellato and MLB China.
Yang’s appointment comes as European luxury brands weather a lackluster retail climate in China, where Givenchy operates 17 brick-and-mortar locations.
