On this edition of “Fresh Faces on the Forty” it’s about the Edna Karr product, Hayward Howard Jr.. Howard comes in from the New Orleans powerhouse and the No. 12 player in the state of Louisiana. He brings great length, at 6’2”, fitting the Kobe Black mold. The hope is he can have a similar impact during his time in Austin.
As we talked about with Samari Matthews, there is a massive benefit to not being forced on the field early. Obviously, Graceson Littleton and Kade Phillips put together strong rookie campaigns but that is the exception, not the rule. That being said, this is a very physically gifted player that, coming from a program like Edna Karr, will be plenty comfortable with the competition level.
Hayward Howard Jr. is a player, among many in the Longhorns class, that could very well play as a freshman but won’t need to. The CB room is possibly the deepest room on the team and Matthews and Howard Jr. will get the chance to learn from the older group. I believe it will make them better in the long term and Howard, with his frame and ability to likely add weight, will become a star at Texas.
Howard Jr. is a player I’m very bullish on that will be stuck behind stars. I believe the same applies for James Johnson, the star DT from Miami. We’ll discuss Johnson tomorrow and why he could be a star in the making for the Longhorns as well.
