It was an enigma. Forward Ogheneruona ‘Miracle’ Akpotayobo decommitted from Auburn after a coaching change there and ended up committing to Becky Burke at Arizona. Then, the freshman disappeared from the Wildcats’ roster in mid-September with no word from the program.

There never was an official explanation for the departure of the 6-foot-3 post from Nigeria, although the program did respond to inquiries about her absence from the roster with a statement wishing her well in her future endeavors. Whatever caused her to move on from Arizona appears to be resolved. She will attempt a return to the court next year somewhere else.
Talia Goodman of On3 reports that Akpotayobo will list her name in the transfer portal. She will officially be a transfer out of the Arizona program despite not being on the roster when fall practice started. She becomes the fifth player who started last season on the team to enter the portal.
Akpotayobo had a very convoluted path in American high school basketball, starting with Life Prep Academy in Wichita, Kan. She appeared on its 2021-22 roster, on its 2022-23 roster, on its 2023-24 roster, and in HUDL highlights from the program.

The native of Nigeria appeared on three different schools’ rosters in three different states during the 2023-24 school year. In addition to Life Prep Academy, she was listed by Christian Pointe Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Fla. She played on their national squad as a junior for part of the season, appearing in nine games according to her MaxPreps stats. She also showed up on the roster of powerhouse DeSoto High School in Texas.
Akpotayobo remained in Texas for her senior year. She played for White High School in Dallas for her final prep season, then came to Tucson the summer before her freshman year.
